The seats on this ANA 787-9 business class review were a big highlight—easily among the best I’ve experienced. From the moment I sat down, it was clear that ANA designed this cabin with both comfort and functionality in mind.
One of the biggest standouts was the sheer amount of storage space available. Never have I seen so many dedicated compartments for personal items on a business class flight.
Leave it to the Japanese to ensure there’s a perfectly placed space for everything—from a dedicated slot for your phone and charging cables to a compartment for your passport and other essentials. Even my larger carry-on items had a place within easy reach, making the flight feel more organized and spacious.
The seat itself was generously sized and well-cushioned, offering plenty of room to stretch out.
The layout ensured excellent privacy, with high partitions that created a more secluded experience. Whether seated at a window or in the middle section, every passenger had direct aisle access, eliminating the awkwardness of stepping over a neighbor.
What truly elevated the experience, though, was the extra attention to sleep comfort. ANA provides a mattress pad and one of the coziest comforters I’ve ever had on a plane.
Combined with the plush pillow, this setup made getting some rest incredibly easy—even for someone like me who typically struggles to sleep on planes. The fully lie-flat position felt spacious, and the bedding’s quality made a noticeable difference in comfort.

Service on this ANA business class Vancouver to Tokyo flight was another highlight that set it apart from other airlines. From the moment I arrived at the check-in counter in Vancouver, it was clear that ANA places a strong emphasis on hospitality.
Before the counter even opened, the entire staff lined up and performed a synchronized bow—a small but memorable touch that set a warm and professional tone for the journey ahead.
Once on board, the level of attentiveness continued. My sake and wine were practically bottomless, as the attentive cabin crew never let my glass get close to empty. There was always someone nearby, ready to refill it with a smile—something I haven’t experienced to this degree on other airlines.
What made it even more impressive was the personalized recommendations on sake and meal pairings, elevating the dining experience to a whole new level. ANA’s commitment to showcasing Japanese hospitality was evident in every interaction.

Whether it was the impeccable hospitality, the never-ending drinks, or the thoughtfully curated amenities, ANA delivered a premium experience that truly stood out.

Sushi at 35,000 feet. Do I need to say more?
Food is often a defining factor in any ANA business class review, and ANA’s meal service is, without a doubt, the most impressive I’ve experienced in business class. From the thoughtfully curated menus to the impeccable presentation, every detail reflected ANA’s commitment to providing a top-tier dining experience.
Passengers are given a choice between Japanese and international cuisine, but after perusing the sake list—which was extensive and well-curated—I took the recommendation of a super friendly flight attendant and opted for the Japanese menu. It turned out to be the perfect choice.
The dishes just kept coming, each beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The highlight for me? A miso-glazed sablefish that was perfectly cooked, rich, and buttery. It was the kind of dish I’d happily order at a high-end Japanese restaurant, let alone on a plane.
Meanwhile, Erin—never one to turn down a cheese plate—declared it her favorite dish of the meal. The international menu also looked impressive, but it’s hard to resist ANA’s signature Japanese meal service, especially with the thoughtful sake and wine pairings offered throughout the flight.
Between the authentic flavors, the seamless service, and the restaurant-quality presentation, the food and drink experience alone makes ANA stand out in any ANA business class review.

Entertainment on this ANA business class review is good, but not great. While it’s on par with other business class flights I’ve taken in terms of movie selection, it does have a few quirks that stood out.
The movie selection is extensive, with a solid mix of Hollywood blockbusters, international films, and Japanese cinema. However, I found it odd that there were no TV shows available—something I usually count on for shorter viewing sessions between meals or before sleeping.
That said, ANA does offer live news and sports channels, which is a nice touch for those who want to stay updated in real time.
The high-resolution screen was crisp and responsive, and the provided noise-canceling headphones did a decent job of blocking out cabin noise. While the entertainment library wasn’t as robust as some other airlines, there was still plenty to keep me entertained throughout the flight.
And, of course, the bottomless sake service certainly helped pass the time.
Overall, while the lack of TV shows felt like a strange omission, the ANA business class entertainment system still delivered a solid selection of films and live content. If you’re a movie buff or enjoy catching up on the latest news, you’ll have more than enough to keep you occupied on this long-haul journey.
