Fresh off an exhausting trip on the most luxurious train in the world (he said sarcastically) we arrived in Durban. Beautiful, tropical, Durban. Moments after leaving the train station the heavens opened up and the torrential rains came down…and didn’t stop for our entire stay. Thankfully we were booked in at the Concierge Boutique Hotel which turned out to be the perfect place to seek shelter.

Hip room
After a confusing cab ride, we arrived at the Concierge Boutique Hotel. Located a couple blocks from the train station, this funky hotel is quietly tucked away down an alley, making it fun for our cab driver to find. Once checked in we dumped our bags and dried off in our trendy room.
After showering in possibly the largest shower in Africa, we enjoyed the sounds of the African rain from our private (and covered!) patio. Later we braved the rain for some dinner. Thankfully the Concierge Boutique Hotel is located steps from a great Indian restaurant, something Durban is known for.
Quirky touches
On top of shelter from the pouring rain, a stay at the Concierge Boutique Hotel includes quirky and wonderful touches, unlike any other hotel. A running theme of wiener dogs is present throughout as are fun pictures and signs such as these:
Cozy Café
Also included in your Concierge Hotel stay is a wonderful breakfast from the Freedom Café. This great coffee shop serves up unique breakfast dishes and artesian coffee in a cool space. It is a place I would hang out in even if I wasn’t staying at the Concierge Boutique Hotel.
Stay Durban
With my limited (and wet) stay in Durban I was happy to spend it at the Concierge Boutique Hotel. From the quirky touches to Africa’s largest shower, the Concierge Hotel is a win – I just wish I had more time to enjoy it…and possibly some sunshine to go with it.
