In this ever-growing world of streamlining and cost-cutting tactics, the evolution of your standard hotel was bound to change. Pay-as-you-go options can be found with cell phones and airplane seats, why not a hotel bed? My first experience of this recently came while staying at the Tune Hotel KL Downtown – a unique accommodation option in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Budget KL Stay
It should come as no surprise that the Tune Hotel KL Downtown charges a nominal fee for extras. The Tune Hotel chain is, after all, owned by Air Asia – the world’s best low cost airline. Much like paying for extra legroom and checked baggage, the Tune Hotel KL Downtown charges for things like towels, air conditioning, and toiletries. Make no mistake though, rooms at the Tune Hotel KL Downtown are clean in design and very comfortable.
This pay-as-you-go model may be surprising to those new to the concept but if you are aware ahead of time you can make your vacation that much cheaper. Take television in your room for example – we opted to have it for our Tune Hotel KL Downtown stay but didn’t end up turning it on once. Instead of watching TV we spent our time seeing the sights. Kuala Lumpur has much to see and the Tune Hotel KL Downtown is the perfect place to see it from.
What’s near the Tune Hotel KL Downtown
The Tune Hotel KL Downtown is ideally located in a rejuvenated part of Kuala Lumpur. Within walking distance you will find metro access and the Quill Mall. Beyond that the Kuala Lumpur Tower, Merdeka Square, and the Petronas Twin Towers along with all the entertainment options that come with it are just a short cab or monorail ride away.
The Tune Hotel KL Downtown location has plenty of onsite perks to make your stay as seamless as possible. A gourmet coffee shop is located in the lobby as is a mini 7-Eleven. For those that have been following along, this convenience store convenience is kind of a big deal to me.
Also onsite at the Tune Hotel KL Downtown are coin operated laundry facilities, a small meeting space, and friendly staff to help you along the way.
On top of minor add-ons such as towels and television, the Tune Hotel KL Downtown also makes it easy to add-on adventure. For your stay, you can choose from a handful of tours right from the booking process. This makes seeing the best KL has to offer easy, affordable, and super convenient.
Although it may seem foreign to some, the Tune Hotel’s are on point and on trend with budget minded travellers. Much like my stay at the NYAH Hotel in Key West, the Tune Hotel KL Downtown offers guests more of what they need and less of what they don’t. In the process travel dollars can be better allocated for tours and actually seeing the city you are visiting.
And really, isn’t that the point?

I was provided a cozy stay at the Tune Hotel KL Downtown as a guest of Tune Hotels. As always,
the experience, opinions, and thoughts are my own.
Tune hotels are very affordable option. I think there will be many more like them in the future
This seems like a way to save but I don’t think I could get onboard with paying for my soap and towels.
Yah tough concept to get used to but a smart one if you want to save.
