The Aeroplan bonus miles keep coming! Here’s the latest offer and why I think this truly has been the summer of Aeroplan.
What’s the Deal?
From now until August 4th, you can get up to 150% Aeroplan Bonus miles on new bookings. For Economy flights, travellers will receive 100% bonus miles. If you book a premium economy or business class seat, you will get 150% bonus miles.
On top of that, you can get up to 40% Aeroplan bonus miles when redeeming for flights. This breaks down to 30% for economy seats, 35% for Premium economy seats, and the full 40% for business class seats. This is not as good as the 50% bonus miles offer on redeeming a few weeks ago however that offer was only for flights within Canada. This offer appears to be worldwide!
Both of these offers are valid for travel between now and September 30th, 2020. One caveat is you have to fly on Air Canada to collect on these Aeroplan bonus miles:
Eligible Scheduled Flights” means a flight operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge® and under the Air Canada Express® brand.

What’s This Mean?
If you are comfortable enough to fly in the next couple of months, booking a new flight gets you a whack of miles in return. The EU is open to Canadians and Air Canada, understandably, has some great seat sales to help fill some seats. If you register for this offer then book through Air Canada, you will receive up to 150% of the miles collected for your flight.
Even better, in my opinion, is the offer to receive up to 40% of your miles back when redeeming. Round-trip business class flights within Canada, for example, run up to 50K points. This means if I book Vancouver to Quebec City in business class I will get 20K points back once I travel. This effectively makes the round trip just 30K points, slightly higher than the 25K it would cost me to fly economy round trip!

This truly has been the summer of Aeroplan. Air Canada and Aeroplan, in particular, have been leading the way in getting people to book future flights. We have seen several promotions like this and unique extras like offering some of their in-flight entertainment at home. On top of that, Aeroplan offers relaxed cancellation policies allowing guests to cancel free of charge. The deadline for this keeps getting pushed back as the world is still not open to travel. Currently, you can cancel your Aeroplan bookings free of charge until August 31st.
Now that said, Air Canada’s replacement product for Aeroplan is fast approaching. The sceptic in me thinks that all of these promotions may lead to a bait and switch where members rack up points only to find them devalued once the new program is implemented. Time will tell.
Either way, with the quick turn around, the redemption option is a really great deal. I already booked a one-way business class trip under the 50% Aeroplan bonus miles promotion to Sydney, Nova Scotia. I was hoping to pick up my new vehicle there and drive home but since the province is not open yet to those outside of the Maritimes, I am looking and shifting my trip to Quebec City instead. If I can not change under the old rules, I will book a new ticket under the 40% Aeroplan bonus miles promotion.
