Delta Hotel Thunder Bay Review – Where to Stay in Thunder Bay

Smack dab in the middle of the rejuvenated Prince Arthur’s Landing is the new Delta Hotel Thunder Bay. This beacon stands as a testament to the forward progress the city is making and offers visitors an excellent night’s sleep with access to all that Thunder Bay has to offer from its front steps.

I was lucky enough to spend three nights in Thunder Bay and the Delta Hotels Thunder Bay was my home base. Here’s my review, along with why I think it is the best place to stay in Thunder Bay.

Delta Hotel Thunder Bay Review - Where to Stay in Thunder Bay

Similar to my recent stay at the Alt Hotel St John’s, without question, the location is this hotel’s best feature. Perched on the waterfront in the heart of Prince Arthur’s Landing, there is no shortage of things to see and do nearby. I enjoyed evening strolls each night during my three days in Thunder Bay, taking in the sunsets and lively activity along the water. There are endless paths along the piers and plenty of park benches to enjoy the sunset.

Downtown Thunder Bay is at the hotel’s backdoor. Access to some of the city’s best shops and restaurants is a pleasant stroll across the pedestrian walkway over the railroad tracks. Personal favorites for nearby eats include the Red Lion Smokehouse and  St. Paul’s for freshly roasted coffee.

What Are the Guestrooms Like at the Delta Hotel Thunder Bay?

Rooms at the Delta Hotel Thunder Bay are both spacious and modern in design. I stayed in two rooms: a south-facing King and a southwest corner king. Both were plenty roomy and well-decorated.

With its waterfront location, guestroom views are something else. In both rooms I tried, I had beautiful harbor views. In the distance, the Sleeping Giant and nearby Mount McKay can be seen.

Aside from incredible views and inviting decor, the Delta Hotels Thunder Bay rooms include nice touches like a comfortable workspace and in-room Nespresso machines. I took full advantage of both and enjoyed a coffee each morning while taking in the views from the corner nook.

Lastly, the beds are super comfy, and the TVs are smart with that Netflix built-in. In short, it was tough to leave each day and say goodbye at the end of my visit.

What Amenities Does the Delta Hotel Thunder Bay Offer?

Although there is plenty to see and do near the Delta Hotel Thunder Bay, there’s plenty on-site to keep you close as well.

Delta Hotel Thunder Bay amenities

Lobby Café

The lobby café serves up Starbucks coffee and light stacks in the early AM. This is perfect for those hitting the road or grabbing something before a day of hiking. I can recommend the yogurt parfait!

Anchor and Ore

A gastropub with harbourfront views, the Anchor and Ore is a great place to unwind. Its decor pays homage to Thunder Bay’s shipping and mining past and its food is anything but rugged. I enjoyed a Thunder Bay Hot Chicken and it was great. They also serve local Sleeping Giant beer on tap and they have a great patio!

Gym

The hotel gym is, in a word, massive. Honestly, my local gym in Vancouver is not much bigger. On top of that, it features brand new cardio and weight machines with plenty of TV’s as well. If Thunder Bay’s many hiking trails don’t make you sweat, this gym will.

Parking

Underground parking is available for a small surcharge. There’s also plenty of parking out front of the property.

There are two Tesla destination chargers in the parkade. Parking is free for those EV drivers.

Conclusion – Stay at the Delta Hotels Thunder Bay!

With its waterfront location and incredibly comfy rooms, the Delta Hotel Thunder Bay is easily my pick for where to stay in the Lakehead City. Whether you are in need of rest passing through town or taking in the natural beauty Northern Ontario has to offer, the Delta Hotel Thunder Bay is the perfect place to stay.
