If you’re traveling through Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and in search of a comfortable, amenity-filled lounge to unwind before your flight, you’ll want to consider the SkyTeam Lounge YVR, also called the SkyTeam Vancouver Lounge or the SkyTeam VIP Lounge Vancouver.
As a frequent user of airport lounges, I was curious to experience this one at my home base. I had read a series of negative reviews online where some guests have complained about worn-out furnishings, unimpressive food options, and a lackluster experience in general.
Naturally, I was interested in seeing for myself whether these criticisms were warranted or whether the SkyTeam Lounge was being misconstrued. On a recent trip to Mazatlán, Mexico, I had the opportunity to try it out for myself.
Here’s my in-depth SkyTeam Lounge Vancouver review to help you determine whether it’s worth a visit during your next flight.

The SkyTeam Lounge YVR is located in International Departures at Vancouver International Airport lounge level four, a level above the main departure gates. It is closest to Gate 53, which was super convenient for me as my flight was departing from Gate 54.
SkyTeam Lounge Access: Who Can Enter?
The SkyTeam Lounge in Vancouver welcomes passengers traveling in premium cabins and those with membership or qualifying credit cards. The following may enter the lounge:
- Delta One and Business Class passengers traveling with Delta or a SkyTeam alliance airline
- SkyTeam Elite Plus customers traveling internationally
- Priority Pass lounge Vancouver members, making it one of the two Priority Pass lounges in the international terminal
- Visa Airport Companion cardholders, which is how I gained access.
Since I was flying WestJet UltraBasic, I did not have lounge access. Thankfully, as a frequent traveler, I have a Priority Pass membership as part of my Aeroplan Amex credit card. However, when I arrived, there was a glitch in accessing my membership number in Apple Wallet. My card details would not update online, and it took a frustrating 10 minutes to sort out.
Subsequently, I noticed a sign for the Visa Airport Companion and decided to utilize that alternative. It did require an app update, but after showing the staff my Visa card, they welcomed me in.
Lesson learned: Carry your Priority Pass card with you or double-check what programs provides you with SkyTeam Lounge access ahead of time. It would have saved me some time and frustration!
SkyTeam VIP Lounge Vancouver: First Impressions and Vibe
The SkyTeam Lounge Vancouver has a modern design and open space. The contemporary and sleek furnishings, combined with a number of comfortable sitting areas, contrast with some of the older, cramped airport lounges. It was a much more pleasant experience compared to the tail end of my trip at the OMA Lounge in Mazatlan.
The upscale décor and plush seating areas give a professional and friendly feel. My favorite aspect was the open atmosphere upstairs above the gates. With high ceilings and a prime location in the terminal, the lounge does not have that claustrophobic, closed-in feel that some Vancouver Airport lounge international spaces have.
Instead, it’s spacious, airy, and ventilated.
Seating and Amenities at SkyTeam Lounge Vancouver
There’s plenty of seating, a definite bonus. The lounge offers:
- Comfortable lounge chairs for relaxation
- Ample power outlets along the bar stool area
- Small dining tables for single travelers or small groups to have a meal
- A workspace reserved for those who must return to work
I chose a comfortable seat along the walkway leading to the kitchen area. Although not very private, it was a great spot to settle in for a while and people-watch. The seat I selected was near a window, offering a view of the airport’s bustling activity.
Relaxing in a lounge with a calm atmosphere while observing the movement around the terminal made for an enjoyable experience.
While a couple of earlier reviews have mentioned wear and tear on some furnishings, I saw nothing in particular that was in bad condition or outdated. It would seem that worn-out items have been replaced or kept in repair. I think this is key to my high praise compared to other Sky Team lounge Vancouver reviews out there.
Food and Drinks at SkyTeam Lounge YVR
The SkyTeam Lounge YVR offers a respectable variety of food. Having arrived early in the morning, I got to try out their breakfast options, which included:
- Scrambled eggs
- Tater tots
- Sausages (albeit surprisingly, not bacon!)
- A congee station to cater to Vancouver’s vast Asian traveler population
Despite the early hours of my visit, there was also a selection of small sandwiches and wraps which was nice to see.
One of the highlights was the congee bar, which instantly reminded me of my time at the ANA Lounge in Tokyo and the Plaza Premium Lounge in Taipei.
Seeing it featured in a North American lounge was a pleasant surprise and added to the international appeal of the SkyTeam Lounge Vancouver. It brought back memories of indulging in similar offerings while traveling through Asia, reinforcing the feeling that this lounge was catering to a truly global crowd.
Another surprise was a noodle bar, a perfect option for a later meal. Unfortunately, as I arrived early, the noodle and the actual bar were not running, and I missed experiencing cocktails and fine spirits. I did, however, see a beer station with cans of beer, mixers, and soft drinks.
Instead, I had a fantastic macchiato, just what I needed to wake myself up before getting aboard my flight.
So, Is SkyTeam Lounge YVR Worth It?
The SkyTeam Lounge in Vancouver provides a wonderful alternative for travelers looking for a comfortable, modern setting in which to unwind before a flight. Some of its top features include:
- A sunny, open-air structure with great views of the terminals
- Sleek, modern furnishings with a high-end feel
- A decent selection of food, e.g., a noodle bar and a congee stand
- Plentiful seating and working spaces for business and recreational travelers
It does have some limitations. If you’re looking for a full bar in the mornings, you’ll be disappointed. Furthermore, while food choices are good, they may not be as extensive as in high-end lounges like the Plaza Premium Lounge in Vancouver.
If you have Priority Pass lounge Vancouver access through a credit card or SkyTeam Elite status, you should consider a stop. For me, it’s up there is value for Priority Pass with the likes of the amazing Aspire Air Canada Cafe at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto.
