Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor is a part of the well-regarded IHG Hotels group, known for offering reliable and consistent service. The hotel caters particularly to long-stay travelers and those seeking a more apartment-style experience, complete with fully equipped suites.
Why I Chose Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor
After climbing Elephant Mountain and biking around Taipei during my three days in Taiwan, I was ready for a comfortable space to recharge. The idea of a suite with a kitchenette, washing machine, and access to modern amenities like an onsen and rooftop pool sealed the deal.
Plus, its Thonglor Bangkok location gave me easy access to transit, restaurants, cafes, and attractions while remaining quiet and relaxing—a perfect balance.
Guest Rooms at Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor: Designed for Comfort
When I stayed at Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor, I was blown away by how well the rooms cater to modern travelers. Everything was spotless, sleek, and surprisingly spacious. The king-size suite I stayed in was perfect for unwinding after exploring Bangkok’s bustling Thonglor neighborhood.
My Room: The King Suite
I chose the King Suite with a bathtub, and I’m so glad I did. At 32 m², it offered a bit more breathing room compared to the standard rooms. It truly felt like a mini apartment, complete with:
- A fully equipped kitchenette: Compact yet functional, with all the essentials. Admittedly, most of my “cooking” involved reheating 7-Eleven snacks or indulging in local takeaway—but hey, the option was there!
- In-suite laundry: Absolute lifesaver. The washing machine and dryer came in handy, especially since I tend to pack light and wash as I go.
- A spacious bathroom: Featuring a sleek design, modern fixtures, and a soaking bathtub. Perfect for unwinding after a long day of exploring.
- A work desk: Spacious enough for my laptop, camera gear, and endless cups of Thai iced coffee. It became my productivity hub for blog writing and trip planning.
The room’s modern décor and smart layout made it incredibly livable. It had that cozy “home-away-from-home” vibe, making it easy to relax and recharge between adventures.
Whether you’re in Bangkok for a quick getaway or an extended stay, the Staybridge Suites offers the perfect balance of comfort and convenience. It’s especially ideal if you appreciate thoughtful amenities like laundry facilities and a kitchenette—even if, like me, you mostly use them for takeaway and snacks!
Location: Thonglor, Bangkok
The Neighborhood
Thonglor, also known as Sukhumvit Soi 55, is one of Bangkok’s trendiest areas. Known for its upscale vibe, Thonglor Bangkok offers a mix of modern dining spots, chic cafes, and boutique shopping experiences.
Popular with Japanese tourists, the area boasts numerous Japanese restaurants, izakayas, and specialty stores, reflecting its deep connection to Japanese culture.
The presence of Japanese expat communities has also led to high-quality services, including authentic Japanese spas and supermarkets. Thonglor is incredibly safe and clean, making it ideal for families and solo travelers.
The hotel’s location in Thonglor is particularly convenient:
- Bangkok’s Thonglor MRT: Just a few minutes’ walk or a free hourly shuttle ride from the hotel. From there, you can connect to major areas of Bangkok or head straight to the airport line.
- Nearby attractions: The Commons (a trendy open-air dining complex), 101 Coffee Station (great for caffeine enthusiasts), and several spas and massage shops are all within walking distance.
For me, having a 7-Eleven nearby was also a must, and several are within a short walk from the Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor. An added bonus is the mango shop on the way to the metro station and a restaurant specializing in Koi Soi, a favorite northern Thai dish I lived off of while spending time in Chang Mai.
Property Highlights: On-Site Amenities
Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor is more than just a place to sleep—it’s an experience. Here’s why this property stood out:
1. Rooftop Pool
The rooftop pool offers great views of Bangkok’s skyline, particularly during sunset. There are lounger chairs by the pool and sofa-style seating in a shaded area, making for a great workspace in between dunks in the pool.
2. Japanese Onsen Spa
One of the highlights of my stay was the onsen spa. Perfect for unwinding after a long day, the spa offers a tranquil retreat with its hot baths and serene atmosphere.
3. Rooftop Bar and Restaurant
The rooftop bar and restaurant at the Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor, Lacol Bangkok, is a standout destination that perfectly embodies the chic Thonglor vibe. Offering a mix of international and Thai cuisine, this stylish venue is perfect for a relaxed dinner or casual drinks with breathtaking panoramic views of the Bangkok skyline.
Lacol Bangkok‘s unique private pods have become increasingly popular in the city, offering an exclusive and intimate setting that’s perfect for special occasions or simply unwinding in style. Their air-conditioned pods are also a favorite for Instagram-worthy moments, especially during sunset.
4. Fully Equipped Gym
The gym is modern and well-maintained, making it easy to keep up with workouts. It’s a feature I took full advantage of every morning followed by a soak in the onsen and then a dip in the pool. It was a pretty great routine.
5. Outdoor Terrace and Workspace
Whether you’re working remotely or catching up on emails, the outdoor terrace offers a cozy yet productive environment. There’s also a dedicated works space on the second floor complete with coffee machines and snacks.
6. Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor Breakfast
The complimentary breakfast spread was impressive, featuring both Western and Asian dishes. Fresh fruits, pastries, hot meals, and beverages ensured there was something for everyone. The dining area, however, could get crowded during peak hours, so I recommend arriving early.
Day Tours from Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor
While I spent most of my time at the Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor enjoying the hotel’s amenities and exploring the trendy Thonglor neighborhood, I found myself wanting to venture out during my last couple of days.
To mix things up, I visited the Changchui Night Market, a unique spot built around a decommissioned airplane. The market’s blend of art, food stalls, and quirky shops offered a refreshing change of pace from my relaxing routine.
I also booked a great day tour to explore some of Bangkok’s most well-known landmarks. The tour included Wat Pho, home to the impressive Reclining Buddha. This 46-meter-long gold-leaf-covered statue is a must-see, and the peaceful temple grounds provide an interesting look into Thai culture and history.
Next, I visited the Pak Khlong Talad Flower Market, one of the largest in Bangkok. The vibrant colors and fragrances of the flowers were captivating, and it was a great spot for photos and soaking in the local atmosphere.
For anyone wanting to dive deeper into Bangkok’s culinary side, a food tour in Bangkok is also a great option, offering the chance to sample authentic Thai dishes while learning about the city’s diverse food culture.
These excursions were a perfect complement to my otherwise relaxed stay. Whether you’re looking for quiet days or exciting outings, the hotel’s convenient location makes exploring Bangkok easy.
Extended Stay Perks
My original plan was to stay at the Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor for two nights. However, I ended up extending my stay by two more nights to try out the updated Thai Airways First Class service and the re-opened Royal Orchid first class lounge at BKK Airport.
The hotel’s flexibility with late check-out and access to amenities like the pool, onsen, and showers after check-out was much appreciated, especially with a midnight departure to London ahead. Even though I had access to the Thai Airways first-class lounge, having the room and access to the hotel’s facilities made it feel like I had a bonus day in Bangkok.
