By my last night in Newfoundland, I was beat. I had driven to every corner of the island (including a side trip to France!), camped in Gros Morne National Park, and hiked in the rain. Exhausted, I needed a great night’s sleep, a car wash, a bike wash, clean laundry, a beer, and a good meal. Here’s how the Hew and Draw Hotel in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, ticked all these boxes and then some.
This is my Hew and Draw Hotel review and why I think it’s the best of all the Corner Brook Newfoundland hotels.

Rooms at the Hew and Draw Hotel
While at the Hew and Draw Hotel, I was accommodated in a standard suite featuring rugged rock-face views of Three Bear Mountain. The room’s design was beautiful and cozy, perfectly complementing the city’s reputation as an outdoor adventure hub. The queen-size bed was incredibly comfortable, and the en suite bathroom featured a walk-in rainfall shower and heated flooring, providing a spa-like experience. I also appreciated the French press with locally roasted fair trade coffee, a delightful touch that improved my morning.
For those looking for different room options, the Hew and Draw Hotel offers a variety of choices to suit every traveler’s needs:
- Queen Suite: Add a little lounge room, luxury, or even extra travelers. Customize your stay with kitchenette or accessible options.
- Double Queen Suite: More space, more beds, more fun. Perfect for extra travelers, these rooms can adjoin to a suite with a kitchenette.
- King Suite: A big day in Corner Brook calls for a big bed. Stretch out in one of our king beds, and add a kitchenette if you need it.
- Executive Suite: This suite is so special you’ll want to stay forever. It features a soaker tub and an extra entertainment area, making it the ultimate luxury retreat.
All rooms have thoughtful amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi, a 55” smart TV with cable and Netflix, and cordless charging stations. The hotel also offers pet-friendly rooms, making it a perfect choice for travelers with furry companions. Additionally, guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the Best Coast Restaurant, adding to the overall exceptional experience. My personal favorite highlight was the well-stocked minibar, including cold beer from the brewery downstairs.
Service and Amenities at The Hew and Draw Hotel
I chose the Hew and Draw Hotel for my final night on the island for several reasons: its excellent facilities, EV charging, and its connection to a brewery. However, I soon discovered that this hotel offers so much more than I had anticipated.
EV Charging
Traveling across the country in an electric vehicle, I always appreciate a hotel that provides free charging. The Hew and Draw offers Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations free of charge for its guests, which made my morning drive to catch the ferry more convenient. Not having to stop to charge meant I could sleep in a little longer.
Bike Station
After washing my car and plugging it in for the night, I was delighted to find a bike repair and cleaning station and safe storage for bikes at the back of the property. This was a great find as my bike was covered in mud from riding around Gros Morne National Park.
Hew and Draw Corner Brook NL Lobby and Check-in
Upon checking in, I was greeted by a friendly host and treated to freshly baked biscuits, which were fantastic and a nice touch. The host provided a thorough rundown of the hotel’s facilities and signed me up for the hot tub—a perfect end to a long day.
Laundry Facilities and Gym
After settling into my room, I headed to the guest laundry room. The hotel provided soap at the front desk, which was a godsend as all my clothes were sweaty and covered in campfire soot. The laundry facilities are next to a well-equipped 24-hour fitness centre, but given I had just spent three days hiking, I opted for a relaxing soak instead.
Hot Tub and Fire Pit
After starting a load of laundry, I picked up a couple of beers from my room and headed to the hot tub. To my surprise, there were two hot tubs on a large rooftop patio with an inviting fireplace nearby. After a nice soak, I went to the fire pit where I met a couple from St. John’s, relaxing and listening to the Tragically Hip.
We chatted over the band, capping off an already great night. I shared that I was compiling a Tragically Hip travel bucket list and got some of their Newfoundland suggestions. They mentioned that they drive across the island yearly just to stay at the Hew and Draw Hotel, which speaks volumes about its quality.
Conference and Meeting Spaces
The hotel also offers two conference and meeting spaces: the Logger School Boardroom, which accommodates up to 8 people, and the Lady Slipper Conference Room, which can host up to 48 people. These spaces are perfect for both small and larger gatherings.
Hew and Draw Restaurant & Brewery
During my stay, I dined at Boomstick Brewing Co., which shares its menu with the Best Coast Restaurant. The atmosphere at Boomstick Brewing Co. is a perfect blend of modern industrial design and cozy comfort, creating an inviting space that reflects the hotel’s overall aesthetic.
The menu, although concise, offers a range of upscale dishes that cater to various tastes. I opted for the fish of the day, which turned out to be the best cod dish I’ve ever had. The food here goes beyond standard pub fare, with each dish carefully crafted to deliver exceptional flavor and quality. While the portions were perfect for me, I would recommend starting with an appetizer if you’re particularly hungry to ensure a satisfying meal.
Boomstick Brewing Co. also stands out for its excellent selection of craft beers. The lively and welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring. Whether you’re enjoying a meal or just sampling their brews, the dedication to quality and creativity is evident in every aspect of the experience.
Breakfast
As if my stay couldn’t get any better, a hot breakfast from the Best Coast Restaurant was included with my stay. Since I was running late to catch my ferry, I requested a breakfast box to go, and the staff kindly accommodated my request.
One of the Best Hotels in Corner Brook
Similar to my stay at the Alt Hotel in St.John’s, my stay at the Hew & Draw Hotel in Corner Brook was just what I needed after an adventurous trip across Newfoundland. From the moment I checked in, I felt welcomed and at ease. The hotel’s thoughtful amenities, such as the bike cleaning station, guest laundry facilities, and EV chargers, catered perfectly to my situation. The well-appointed rooms, with their comfortable beds and beautiful bathrooms, provided a relaxing retreat after my long days of exploring all Newfoundland offers.
Dining at Boomstick Brewing Co. was a highlight, with its menu and craft beers adding to the overall exceptional experience. The atmosphere at the brewery was vibrant yet cozy, making it a perfect place to unwind. The rooftop hot tubs and fire pit provided a unique and memorable way to end the evening, offering relaxation and a sense of community as I chatted with fellow travelers.
For anyone heading to or returning from Gros Morne National Park, the Hew & Draw Hotel is a stop that is not to be missed. It offers the perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and local charm, making it an ideal base for exploring Corner Brook and beyond. Like the couple I met around the fire, I would return to Corner Brook to stay at the Hew & Draw Hotel. It truly is a remarkable place that exceeds expectations and leaves you wanting more.
