Where to Stay in Kandy, Sri Lanka – The Theva Residency Review

Perched high above Kandy you will find The Theva Residency hotel, an incredible retreat from the big city below. With incredible views, massive rooms, and a great pool, The Theva Residency hotel quickly became one of my favourites stays in Sri Lanka. Read on for my Theva Residency review to find out why.

The Theva Residency Location

The first thing I came to love on my Theva Residency review is its location. Situated on the hillside of the Hantana mountains, this hotel offers amazing views of the valley and city below. Although the Theva Residency is 15-minute drive up from the Kandy train station and isolated from the city, the property does offer a free shuttle service into town.

The Theva Residency Rooms

There are four types of rooms at the Theva Residency, Superior, Delux, Suites, and a Penthouse – each of which is uniquely different. I stayed in an upper Suite room which features a massive rain shower, large bed, and a jetted tub. Oh, and that view:

Rooms start at around $150 USD per night making this luxury retreat an affordable one.

Theva Cuisine

Given that the hotel is a hike from town we decided to dine in. Theva Cuisine is a contemporary restaurant with local flair. Best of all, again, is the patio views.

Breakfast comes with your stay and I highly recommend you go Sri Lankan style. This includes string hoppers, curry, and coconut sambal. Be sure to place your order the night before as the Sri Lankan breakfast is a feast and takes time to prepare.

The Theva Residency Amenities

Last up on this Theva Residency review is the many amenities that make it my choice destination in Kandy. The Theva Residency allows guests to relax and have little guilt about heading into town. There are a sauna and steam rooms alongside an Instagram friendly infinity pool.

The rooms themselves are also incredibly relaxing and include an assortment of Sri Lankan teas and no shortage of cosy spots to enjoy one from. Of course, don’t just take my word for it. Flip through The Theva Residency Instagram feed and see for yourself!

Conclusion

I spent two nights at the Theva Residency and was the perfect place to rest up before a seven-hour train ride to Ella. With its spacious rooms, friendly staff, awesome infinity pool, and incredible views I highly recommend this pitstop on any trip through Sri Lanka’s interior.
