Treat the Whole Family to a Lake District Break

With everyone living such a hectic life and following busy schedules, it can be difficult to find a spare minute to spend with your family and friends. It’s important to make sure you have as much time for enjoying your hobbies as you do for working hard. Whether it’s spending time with the kids, or a romantic getaway for the two of you, you should make the time for treating yourselves to a break.

When it comes to booking a trip away, you might automatically think that Europe or further afield are your best options. However, the UK has some hidden gems that can keep the whole family entertained, meaning you don’t have to go far to treat yourself. The Lake District is an area of natural beauty, providing the perfect backdrop for a relaxing few days or an action-packed weekend; in other words, there’s something for everyone. So, what’s on offer for your next family break?

Family Breaks In The Lake District

Whether you have young children or teenagers, there are a whole host of activities to get involved in and make the most of your free time. The Lake District is home to every different kind of sport imaginable, so if you’re the active kind then you’ll be in your element.

From watersports on one of the many lakes, to climbing and biking centres, you can let the kids run wild for the day and even get involved yourself. Derwent Water Marina is home to an array of watersports such as windsurfing, kayaking and even hiring boats for the afternoon. So, whether you want to get stuck in or you’d rather watch from afar, there’s an option for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Likewise, should you wish to spend your afternoon in a more relaxing way, then you have options too. Pack lunch to eat by one of the many lakes, take a leisurely walk up one of the multiple fells or mountains; some are easier to climb than others, depending on your ability!

Do Something a Little Different

The Lake District is home to so many unique sights that you won’t find anywhere else. With 16 different lakes and the highest mountain in England, the area has countless historical sites for you to explore. Castlerigg Stone Circle, located just outside Keswick, is one of the earliest Neolithic stone circles in the country.

Mirehouse is a stunning home set in the wilderness; a family home since 1688, famous poets have been known to stay. Inherited by a family in 1802, their descendants still live there today.

There are also countless Roman ruins including castles and abbeys, and remains of the industrial heritage of the area. Mills, ironworks and quarries can still be visited even today.

Take The Whole Family

When we say treat the family to a weekend getaway, we mean the whole family. The Lake District is home to a number of pet-friendly hotels so your four-legged friend can join you on your family adventures. So, whether you’re climbing a mountain, wandering around a lake or simply relaxing in the hotel lounge, your dog can join in on the fun!
