Ingredients

For the dough

  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ tsp yeast
  • Warm water
  • A dash of olive oil
  • ½ tsp sugar or sweetener
  • A pinch of salt

For the toppings

  • 1 cup broccoli
  • A pinch of allspice seasoning (optional)
  • 2 ripe green avocados
  • ½ cup olives
  • 1 cup mushrooms
  • ½ cup parmesan
  • ½ cup cheddar

For the green veggie sauce

  • 2 medium green tomatoes
  • 1 cup spinach
  • ½ cup of water
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • A pinch of salt
  • ½ tsp dried oregano

Instructions

Preheat the oven at 180 degrees.

In a bowl, warm some water around two-thirds of the bowl until slightly above room temperature. The water should be above room temperature to activate the yeast when forming the dough.

Pour in the yeast, olive oil, sugar, and salt. Mix until combined. Let the mixture sit for around five minutes until it starts frothing. Pour in the flour and combine lightly until the dough-like mixture starts to form. This mixing can be done by kids to keep them involved in the process.

Lightly powder the kitchen counter and transfer the mixture on the surface for kneading.

Knead gently until well-formed and cover with a kitchen towel or a cling film. Leave to rise for around 10 to 15 min.

In a pan, drizzle some olive oil and sauté the mushrooms until semi-cooked. Add allspice seasoning and salt to taste.

Take the veggie sauce ingredients and puree them until well mixed. Set aside.

At this point, check the dough to ascertain it has risen to double its size. If it has, uncover it and divide it into two ball portions.

Lightly grease the countertop and place one ball to prepare for the rolling process. Take a rolling pin and spread the dough into a circular shape to the thickness you desire.

When the dough is well-sized, prepare your Garfield pizza dough cutter and press on the dough until cut through.

Take the oven sheet and spray it with cooking spray. Place parchment paper on top to prevent the pizza from sticking to the base of the sheet.

Take your Garfield shaped dough and place it on the oven sheet.

With the help of a fork, gently prick the dough all round to prevent bubbles from forming when cooking.

Topping

Take the veggie sauce and evenly spread all around the dough. Be careful not to stray too far to the edges to prevent spilling in the oven.

Sprinkle some parmesan cheese on top of the sauce for extra flavour.

Evenly sprinkle some broccoli on the dough, followed by the sautéed mushrooms. Add the olives for added color and flavour.

Lastly, cut the ripe avocados into small cubes and sprinkle on the dough. The dough should be coming together at this point. Ensure the ingredients do not stray towards the edges.

Finally, sprinkle a mixture of the remaining parmesan and cheddar cheese generously on the dough.

Take the pizza and place it in the already preheated oven. Let it cook for around five to eight minutes, or until the crust is fully cooked through.

Remove the pizza from the oven, slice, and serve.

Additional tips

This simple and flavourful recipe is enough to ensure your kids keep coming back for more. You can repeat the same for the remaining dough or try adding extra ingredients that the children fancy.

The involvement of children in the cooking process makes them eager and excited to eat the final product.
