If you’ve been following along, you know I’m more than just a bit of an airplane nerd. From growing up around floatplanes to pulling loops in a World War I biplane over New Zealand, my fascination with flight has shaped many of my travels.
So, when I planned my European EV road trip, visiting the Airbus Museum in Toulouse was a must. As the birthplace of Airbus and a major aviation hub, Toulouse was the perfect place to kick off my journey—and an even better place to dive into the history and innovation behind some of the world’s most iconic aircraft.
From the Concorde to the massive A380, I covered it in my time visiting the Toulouse Airbus Museum and am here to share the highlights. Come along, and let’s visit Airbus togehter.

As I found, Toulouse isn’t just a charming city in southern France; it’s the beating heart of European aerospace. Often called the “Pink City” for its terracotta buildings, Toulouse is home to Airbus’ global headquarters and some of the most significant aviation sites in the world.
Toulouse has been at the heart of aviation history for over a century, with its legacy dating back to 1917 when Pierre-Georges Latécoère established an aircraft manufacturing plant.
Initially focused on producing military aircraft during World War I, Latécoère’s vision extended beyond wartime needs—he later pioneered international airmail routes, laying the foundation for what would become the legendary Aéropostale airline.
Over the decades, this early innovation in aerospace manufacturing evolved into the global giant we now know as Airbus. Today, Toulouse is home to Airbus headquarters and its primary assembly lines, employing over 20,000 people who design and build some of the world’s most advanced commercial aircraft.
For aviation enthusiasts like me, the city offers a rare opportunity to get up close with this rich history. In addition to factory tours showcasing modern Airbus aircraft production, Toulouse is home to the Aeroscopia Museum, an essential stop for anyone passionate about flight.
This museum houses an impressive collection of historic aircraft, including the legendary Concorde, a Super Guppy, and even an Airbus A380 prototype. Whether you’re interested in the golden age of aviation or the cutting-edge technology shaping air travel today, Toulouse is a city where aerospace heritage and innovation come together like nowhere else.
Why is the Airbus Museum in Toulouse?

Airbus, one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers, was founded in 1970 as a European collaboration to compete with American aerospace giants. Today, Airbus produces some of the most iconic aircraft in the world, including the A320, A350, and the massive A380.
Why Toulouse? The city was chosen due to its established aeronautical industry, skilled workforce, and central location in Europe. The Airbus Factory Tour offers visitors a behind-the-scenes look at how these incredible machines are built.
Getting to the Airbus Museum and Parking
I’ll be honest—getting to the Airbus Museum Toulouse wasn’t the easiest experience. While the signs were there, I relied too much on my car’s navigation and missed them entirely. Don’t make the same mistake—follow the official signage once you’re nearby.
Free parking is available on-site. I ended up parking my rented Tesla at a lot next to a Concorde on display, which felt like moving from one spaceship to another.
The Airbus Museum: Hours, Cost, and Tours
The Aeroscopia Museum is open year-round, but it’s best to check the official website for exact hours and any special closures.
- Opening Hours: Generally 9:30AM to 6PM (seasonal variations apply)

Let’s Visit Airbus Factory Tour Options
The museum offers multiple tour options, but booking in advance is essential—something I learned the hard way. When I checked a couple of weeks before my visit, all English tour slots were fully booked.
While I was in France to practice my French, I wanted to fully understand the Airbus tour details, so I decided to pass. If an Airbus tour is on your must-do list, be sure to reserve early so you don’t miss out!
That said, I did get a glimpse of what I missed. While exploring the museum, I saw a tour group boarding the bus that takes visitors around Airbus’ massive 700-hectare campus, giving them access to various factory buildings. Watching them set off made me regret not securing a spot, even in French.
Here are the Airbus factory tour options you can choose from:
- ‘Airbus A350’ Tour – A deep dive into Airbus’ most advanced aircraft, including a bus tour of the sprawling Airbus campus.
- ‘Airbus A321’ Tour – A panoramic view of the assembly line, where you can see fuselages and wings coming together.
- ‘Airbus Kids’ Tour – A fun, educational experience designed for kids aged 6-12, explaining how airplanes are built.
If you love aviation, this is one of the best behind-the-scenes experiences you can have—just make sure to book ahead!

Notable Exhibits at the Museum
One of the highlights of the Toulouse Airbus Museum is the chance to step inside legendary aircraft:
- Concorde: A rare opportunity to walk inside the world’s most famous supersonic jet.
- A380: Stand beneath the double-decker giant and explore its interior structure.
- Vintage Aircraft Collection: Showcasing aviation history from early biplanes to modern jets.
My Experience at the Toulouse Airbus Museum
After finally finding parking, I made my way toward the museum entrance, passing the fenced-off Concorde sitting on the tarmac. Seeing it up close was very cool, and I stopped to take photos, not fully realizing that I was about to get much, much closer to this legendary aircraft.
Once inside, I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet and spacious the museum felt. Unlike some overly crowded aviation museums, this one allowed me to take my time, wander at my own pace, and really soak in the exhibits. Without the pressure of moving along with a tour group, I could stop to read detailed placards, listen to audio guides, and appreciate the impressive collection of both military and civilian aircraft.
I particularly enjoyed the displays highlighting Toulouse’s deep aviation roots, from its early days of aircraft manufacturing to its role in the development of Airbus. Of course, the Concorde exhibit was a standout. Seeing the interior up close and learning about its engineering breakthroughs made me appreciate just how ahead of its time this supersonic jet was.
Then came the A380 experience, which was another major highlight. Walking inside and exploring sections of the aircraft that aren’t normally visible when flying was fascinating.
Seeing the inner workings of the double-decker jet, including areas typically hidden from passengers, gave me a whole new appreciation for this massive engineering feat. They had sections of the A380 setup exhibit style, showcasing the different seating configurations and ways they utilize the world’s largest passenger plane.
There was also a tiny electric aircraft on display, which just seemed fitting on my EV road trip through Europe.
For those interested in flying on an A380, check out my reviews of Emirates A380 business class (which features a lounge and bar!) and Singapore Airlines A380. If you enjoy aviation museums, I also recommend visiting the Winnipeg Air Museum and the Canadian Air and Space Museum in Ottawa.
Let’s Visit Airbus: Is it Worth It?
Absolutely! Whether you’re a hardcore aviation nerd or just curious about how planes are made, the Airbus Museum Toulouse is an incredible experience. From walking inside a Concorde to seeing the inner workings of an A380, it’s a dream destination for aviation lovers.
Getting in and out of Toulouse is also easy, and if you’re flying from Montreal, there’s a great opportunity to save on flights. Air Canada offers a direct route to Toulouse, which tends to be less popular than flights to Paris, making it a more affordable option—especially when booking with Aeroplan points. I took advantage of this and scored a great redemption rate, making Toulouse the perfect gateway for my European EV road trip.
Up next: Check out my San Sebastián food tour, where I explored the city’s world-renowned pintxos scene, followed by 24 hours in Bilbao, taking in its striking blend of modern architecture and Basque culture.
