During my three days in Quebec City, I took full advantage of the city’s walkable nature, exploring everything from historic battlefields to city walls over 300 years old. Whether I was wandering through charming cobblestone streets or visiting iconic landmarks, I found that Quebec City is a treasure trove of history and culture best experienced on foot. The highlight of my stay, however, was my accommodation at Hotel Château Laurier.
Ideally located in the heart of the city, this hotel served as the perfect base for my explorations. Nestled between the bustling streets of Old Quebec and the tranquil Plains of Abraham, it offered easy access to all the major attractions. From here, I could effortlessly stroll to nearby shops, restaurants, and historic sites, making it the ideal choice for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of Quebec City.
In this Hotel Château Laurier review, I’ll cover why this hotel’s location, amenities, and charm make it the perfect choice for your visit to Quebec City.

The Hotel Château Laurier is ideally situated just outside the city walls of Old Quebec, making it an excellent choice for those who want to be close to the sights without being in the midst of the crowds. After a day of exploring the historic heart of Quebec City, Hotel Château Laurier provides a peaceful retreat from the bustling tourist center, offering a relaxing place to unwind.
But the hotel’s prime location doesn’t limit you to Old Quebec. The Plains of Abraham, literally next door, offer vast green spaces perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. Even closer are Parc de la Francophonie and Place George-V, both just steps from the hotel’s front doors.
While you have the option to venture back into the old town for dinner or drinks, the vibrant Grande Allée E, which runs along the hotel’s Victorian townhouse entrance, presents plenty of nightlife options. Here, you’ll find a variety of restaurants, bars, and microbreweries within a few blocks, ensuring you have a multitude of choices right at your doorstep.

Hotel Château Laurier Property and Amenities
This family-owned hotel has been servicing visitors to Quebec City for over 40 years. Over this period, many renovations and restorations have taken place. This has helped the hotel keep up with the times while keeping its heritage intact.
Hotel Château Laurier Lobby
Hotel Château Laurier is fresh off a lobby renovation and is both classy and modern. There is a large seating area with a communal workspace that, in non-pandemic times, is surely buzzing with activity.
Hotel Château Laurier Spa and pool
Hotel Château Laurier features a gym, an outdoor spa, and a saltwater pool. Due to the pandemic, all services are limited so best to check ahead if you want to use these facilities. I did not cover them in my Hotel Château Laurier review.
Hotel Château Laurier Parking
The Hotel Château Laurier has the added benefit of being on top of a large parkade. This means is no issues finding a parking spot. Valet parking costs $26 or $21.74 to self-park. As I found on my trip, is free if you drive an electric vehicle. This is part of the hotel’s green initiative.
Note: Charging is provided by Flo and is not included in your stay. Also note, due to the parking spots being underground, cell coverage is limited. Be sure to sign up for Flo’s physical card to access the charging machines.
Hotel Château Laurier Courtyard
The hotel has several towers and, in the middle of it all, is a beautiful four-season courtyard and garden. This is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine in the afternoon or after a day of strolling through Old Quebec.
Hotel Château Laurier Electronic Wine Machines
Speaking of wine, the best feature of the Hotel Château Laurier (or at least in my opinion!) is the wine vending machines throughout the property.
At first mention, I was thinking about box wine sitting out on a table but no, these missing machines are legit. They are Italian made and stocked with excellent wines curated from Quebec and beyond. All guests have to do is load up a card at the front desk and start pouring. ~$20 gets you four glasses. It’s magical.
Hotel Château Laurier Rooms
The Hotel Château Laurier offers 278 rooms divided into 7 categories. This helps serves a wide range of travellers. From families on a Quebec road trip to those on business, there’s a room for you.
During my three days in Quebec City, I stayed in La Luxueuse. This is an incredibly spacious room and offers views of Quebec Armoury.
On top of that, there is a cosy seating area with a gas fireplace. Paired with the single-serve espresso machine (or wine vending machine down the hall) and I was more than happy to head back to my room.
Hotel Château Laurier Restaurants and Nearby Eats
On-site dining is reserved to St. Hubert, a well-loved Quebec rotisserie chicken chain. I did spy a leg of prosciutto curing in a unique machine in the hallway which made me curious.
Johanne Caron, director of sales and marketing, let me know that the Hotel Château Laurier runs George V, a caterer and banquet service. George V is committed to supporting local. This means they source their food from Quebec bakeries, cheese shops, and farms for the freshest ingredients possible.
Nearby Eats
As mentioned above, Hotel Château Laurier sits on lively Grande Allée E with plenty of great places to eat. Here are a few options to try:
- 3 Brasseurs Grande Allée (160 m) – Microbrewery with an extensive bar menu.
- Restaurant Ophelia (165 m) – Classy steak and seafood spot
- Brasserie Artisanale La Korrigane (1.6 km) – Unique craft beer and pub food.
Supporting Local
Speaking of sourcing local, Hotel Château Laurier’s commitment is not reserved for food. Throughout the property, you will find incredible paintings of Francophone artists created by Francophone artists. This is a great touch and highlights the fact that the place is family owned and not an emotionless hotel chain.
Another nice touch with supporting local is a 50% discount card they give to their guests. This is for use at partner shops in the neighbourhood.

After a busy day exploring the Plains of Abraham and soaking in all that Old Quebec has to offer, the hotel’s comforts were a welcome retreat.
One of the highlights was the unique wine vending machine—perfect for grabbing a glass of wine to enjoy in the comfort of my room. Relaxing by the fire with a glass of wine was the ideal way to cap off a perfect day in Quebec City. The room itself was spacious and well-appointed, providing a cozy atmosphere that felt like a home away from home.
The hotel’s amenities extend beyond just the rooms. There are also fitness facilities, an indoor pool, and a sauna, ensuring guests have everything they need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The staff at Hotel Château Laurier were incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any requests or provide recommendations for local attractions and dining options.
