I recently ticked off a bucket list trip to the Maldives that lived up to the hype and then some. A big reason for this is the resort I stayed at. Although I already posted a full review of my time at the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort, I thought I would share a quick list on why you should consider it for your Maldives trip. With that in mind, here are five reasons to choose the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort.
1) The Price
As highlighted in my full review, one of the main reasons to choose the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort is the price. I had some demands for my first visit to the Maldives which included staying in an overwater pool villa and the option of all-inclusive. The Mecure Maldives resort not only ticked these boxes but also came in as the cheapest option.

2) The Accessibility
I originally thought the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort’s location was a downfall. It located a short three-minute golf cart ride from the Kooddoo Airport. Although I was worried about missing out on that secluded island stay and hearing noise from the neighbouring airport, this turned out to be a big plus. Once at my overwater villa any negative thoughts on this were long gone. So was any noise from the small airport.
A plus from this is the cost to stay there. I don’t think I am the only one with this concern and is why the resort is cheaper than others. On top of this, there is no additional boat ride to get from the main island airport to the resort or from your floatplane to the resort.
3) This Room
Another reason to choose the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort is the modern and clean decor. I worried it was too hotel chain looking. In actuality, I really liked the modern look and feel. Turns out there is much more of an island feel with the decoration, tile work, and wooden features. The pictures on the company website do not help. The villas are much larger and sharper looking in person. Trust.
4) This Glass Floor
What I originally thought was a tacky feature became a must-have. The marine life surrounding the bungalows and just how much you can see through the glass floor in your room is amazing. Each unit has coral with lights shining on it directly below the window which helps attract fish. Honestly though, walking to and from breakfast and dinner each day you see so many fish that it feels like you are living in an aquarium. It’s that awesome.
5) All-Inclusive (or not)
Last up on this list of reasons to choose the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort for your vacation is the all-inclusive options. I didn’t want to be stuck at a resort paying high resort prices on à la carte meals. Because of this, I wanted the option of an all-inclusive plan. Not only did the Mercure Maldives resort provide this, but did so on a selective basis. This meant that because we arrived after lunch the first day we were able to do à la cart that day. Same with missing dinner on the last day. This saved us a lot and it’s something I didn’t think was possible as most resorts will charge you all-inclusive rates for each day you are there, regardless of your time of arrival and departure.

One Reason to NOT Choose the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort
What’s missing on this list of reasons to choose the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort is the food. Although the breakfast and lunch spreads were very good, the food overall is nothing to write home about. This was highlighted by $30 packaged pasta and subpar meal service at it’s more expensive VISTAS restaurant. If I were to visit again I would go for the B&B only and stick to the buffet meals for dinner.
Bonus Reason – Super Late Checkout!
A surprise bonus reason to choose the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort is their friendly late checkout option. Our flight out of Male wasn’t until 11:30 PM meaning we didn’t have to leave the resort until 7:30 PM. We inquired about a late checkout and to our surprise found that as long as no one was checking into our villa, we kept the room until 6 PM for only $100 more! That’s a hell of a deal considering we were paying roughly $400 a night!
