Miami is not one of my favorite places. It feels fake and like a playground for those that can afford it. So for my recent 24-hour layover in Miami, I opted to stay close to the airport. Not surprisingly, this was no better. In short, the airport hotel was the worst hotel I have stayed in… and I’ve stayed in some dives. Because of this, we arrived at the Miami airport hours before our flight to get inside the Miami Avianca lounge. Here’s how it looks:
Avianca VIP Lounge Miami Location
To access the Avianca VIP Lounge at Miami International Airport, head to Gate J4 in Terminal J. Take the elevator up three levels to reach the lounge entrance, where staff will assist with check-in. The lounge is open 24 hours a day, making it a convenient option no matter your flight time.
Avianca Lounge Miami Amenities
The amenities inside the Avianca VIP Lounge at Miami International Airport are fairly standard but functional. The space is quite large, though it did feel a bit crowded during my afternoon visit. Still, I was able to find one of the many comfortable lounge chairs to relax in before boarding. The lounge offers quiet TV rooms for those looking to tune out, clean shower facilities for freshening up between long-haul flights, and a surprisingly well-equipped business center.
That last one came in especially handy—I was able to quickly access a desktop and printer to sort out some last-minute travel documents, which saved me a ton of stress. Complimentary Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, making it a solid spot to catch up on emails or download content before boarding.
Food and Drink inside the Avianca Lounge Miami
Here’s an expanded version of the food section with more context and tone continuity:
While I was inside the Avianca Miami lounge during lunch service, the food selection was pretty limited. A couple of hot trays offered what could generously be described as pasta in sauce, alongside some basic rice and vegetable options.
“This tastes exactly like Lipton Sidekicks,” Erin said while poking at the plate. To my surprise, that was meant as a compliment—apparently she has a soft spot for gray, salty slop. Who knew?
There were also a few cold items like basic sandwiches, salad fixings, and some snackable pastries, but nothing that would qualify as memorable. If you’re hoping for anything close to a full meal, you might want to eat beforehand or head to one of the nearby restaurants in the terminal.
At least the drinks were plentiful inside the Miami Avianca lounge.
How to get in the Avianca Lounge Miami
Bland food and a packed house aside, the Avianca Lounge at Miami International still offers a welcome sanctuary from the chaos of the terminal—and if you’re anything like me, that’s a very good thing. To access the lounge, you’ll need to be flying in business class or higher on a Star Alliance carrier, such as Avianca or United.
Alternatively, you can purchase a day pass at the door for $25 USD + tax, which is relatively affordable compared to many other international lounges. Just keep your expectations in check when it comes to food and crowd levels, and you’ll still find value in the peace, Wi-Fi, and a comfortable seat away from the boarding gate hustle.
Wrapping Up This Miami Avianca Lounge Review
Overall, the Avianca Lounge Miami covers the basics—comfortable seating, decent Wi-Fi, and a few practical amenities like showers and a business center—but it’s far from memorable. The food is underwhelming, the space often crowded, and the overall vibe leans more functional than relaxing. If you already have lounge access, it’s a decent place to recharge. But if you’re paying out of pocket, you might be better off spending more time at your airport hotel, where you’ll likely find better food, stronger coffee, and a much quieter atmosphere. The Avianca VIP Lounge Miami serves its purpose, but don’t go out of your way for it.
