5 Reasons You Need Travel Insurance Abroad According To FlightHub 2

How many times have you heard this statement, “I wish I had travel insurance”. While maybe you haven’t, the horror stories run the gamut from mild inconvenience to financial ruin. While more often than not your travel plans will go off without a hitch, the small expense, when compared with the cost of your trip, can be a real lifesaver, especially when you are stranded in a foreign country with a different culture, language, or customs. I spoke with FlightHub, a North American online travel agency, about their experiences with their customers and travel insurance. While they have heard their share of horror stories, I asked that FlightHub review the top five reasons you need travel insurance before heading out on your next trip.

1 – Life Happens: Cancelling Your Trip

You’ve done all your planning, you’ve packed your bags, but then something comes up. Cancelling your trip last minute can be very costly before its all said and done. Travel insurance gives you a “get out of jail free” card that can save you some serious cash. FlightHub says this is one of the most used perks of travel insurance, as these types of claims can be tied to so many different motivations.

2 – Cover Yourself In The Event Of Illness Or Injury

The worst of these reasons you need travel insurance. Medical emergencies can derail not just your trip, but potentially your personal health. Travel insurance can pay itself back very quickly in the event you require serious medical help while travelling abroad. I can tell you from a personal standpoint that when I got ill as a child in the United States that travel insurance not only ensured my personal health but also my parent’s financial well-being while we were on vacation. If on a road trip, don’t forget the auto or van insurance.

3 – Natural Disasters: Get Outta Dodge

Oh no! A hurricane! No doubt that in the event of a legit emergency you would want to get the heck out of town. Travel insurance can make this much easier as you’ll have someone in your corner helping you plan an escape plan from the coming storm or event.

4 – Lost Baggage

You’ve landed and you’re ready to hit the beach. The issue, you can’t find your trunks or the rest of your luggage for that matter. While travel insurance providers won’t become your personal shoppers, they will certainly do their part to make sure you can get through your trip comfortably. Likewise, if there is luggage to be found, you can bet you’ll be getting your bags expedited to your present location. Peace of mind goes a long way with these reasons you need travel insurance.

5 – 24 Hour Assistance

Lastly, FlightHub says having access to a 24-hour vacation lifeline can give you peace of mind. While getting your hands-on help without insurance can be difficult, your 24-hour travel guru knows who to talk to, how to help you, and how to do it quickly in the event you come calling while on vacation.
