While falling in love with Adelaide I had the opportunity for a day touring the Fleurieu Peninsula – home to excellent craft breweries and plenty of great vineyards. This big day out also included some off-roading and didgeridoo serenading. In short, it was pure Australia in eight hours. Read on.
Beaches and Beer
Our day touring the Fleurieu Peninsula started with pick up in Adelaide and a visit to a nearby beautiful beach…then we drove over it. This was, after all, a 4WD craft beer tour!
The off-road continued with the drive up to the highest points while touring the Fleurieu Peninsula. The green hill Side complete with stunning views and loads of sheep what’s the perfect spot to enjoy a couple of cold Coopers beers.
Other craft brewery stops on our day touring the Fleurieu Peninsula included Vale and Goodieson. We sampled some great beer but the knowledge was lacking on the tour side. When I asked out Vale host about what makes an Australian IPA different she flat out said “I don’t know” and continued with her prepared talk. I would later find on my brewery tour in Sydney that this limited beer knowledge is a problem and there is actually a school dedicated to fix it.
Lunch stop for the Ages
We shifted gears (literally) the drive to the bottom of gorge. After giving some stranded hikers a lift, we enjoyed the most Australian lunch possible complete with local wine and didgeridoos. The picturesque setting under an old gum tree paired with the music and wine could have only got more Australian if a crocodile came out of the river and boxed a kangaroo.
Vines 4 days
As I found while touring the Barossa Valley, Adelaide has some great wines. Touring the Fleurieu Peninsula was no different. This four-wheel-drive draft beer tour included some excellent wine stops including a look inside our tour guides personal stash.
Great day out
For something a little different while visiting Adelaide, head out for a day touring the Fleurieu Peninsula. Craft breweries, true Australian scenery, an adventure awaits. And there is more wine, something Australia knows a thing or two about.
