Tips on Touring the Blue Grotto in Malta

IMG

As noted on my Day Tour of Malta, this tiny nation in the middle of the Mediterranean packs in a lot of natural beauty. The Blue Grotto in Malta is possibly the most scenic spot and is a must-visit attraction in my opinion. It blends natural caves with the bluest of blue water which you can take in from the shore as well as up close by boat.

The Blue Grotto in Malta is found in guidebooks and on postcards for a reason. This stunning shot of the Blue Grotto can be viewed as you make your way down to Wied Iż-Żurrieq, a tiny harbour village where tours to the Blue Grotto in Malta depart. Be sure to pull over at the parking lot and take it in.

Boat tours of the Blue Grotto in Malta frequently run from Wied Iż-Żurrieq. Weather is a factor so best to check conditions before heading out. Once at the village, head down the boat ramp and over to the kiosk to buy a ticket.

From there, guests board a colourful wooden boat that takes them on a tour of the coast including the Blue Grotto. Tours last about 20 minutes and cost roughly 8 euros.

Leaving our boat tour of the Blue Grotto in Malta we stumbled on a wildlife conservation group with some of their friends. This included some of Malta’s most adorable birds which can be interacted with for a small donation.
