Los Angeles has become synonymous with glitz and glamour, and for a good reason. With the Hollywood sign welcoming visitors to “The City of Angels,” it’s only natural for people to associate the city with the entertainment industry. Fame and celebrities aside, Los Angeles has a lot to offer, something I discovered first-hand after spending a weekend in LA.
With that in mind, here are five great things to do with a weekend in LA.
Visit Venice Beach
First up on this list of things to do with a weekend in LA is visiting Venice Beach. From the bikers and skaters to the street performers and tattoo parlours, Venice Beach is about as non-Hollywood as it gets. Exploring the skate plaza and Venice Muscle Beach is an experience I will never forget. For the best beach bikes to take it all in, consider cruisers as the trails are flat and paved.
I also took the time to visit the historic arcaded buildings Venice is known for. I also took in Southern California’s second most-visited place – the boardwalk.
Cruise Mulholland Drive
If you’re looking for a quick tour of Los Angeles, the best way to do it is by taking a slow drive down Mulholland Drive. To make things slower, I got out of the car from time-to-time to take in the gorgeous views of the city.
The Hollywood sign, the Los Angeles Basin, the San Fernando Valley, and the Santa Susana Mountains are just some of the spectacular vistas you can take in.
Go on a Scavenger Hunt
Travelling is already fun and exciting, but with my weekend in LA, I was looking for something different. I wanted to explore some of Los Angeles’ most beautiful spots in a unique way and came across a scavenger hunt!
Companies like CityHUNT allows tourists and locals alike to enjoy this option. By helping me set up a Los Angeles scavenger hunt according to my preference, my family and I had a really good time exploring Downtown Burbank while searching for several items.
To add some exercise to the activity, consider taking city bikes!
If you’re tired of exploring cities the traditional way, do a scavenger hunt. It’s a great way of making things more interesting. Make sure to book your hunt online in advance so CityHUNT can customize it according to your needs!
Runyon Canyon Park
Hollywood Hills is a great spot for hiking. Although some of my favourite Hollywood stars’ Instagram posts are proof of this, I had to see it with my own two eyes.
There are three trails to choose from and each has its own level of difficulty. The Runyon Canyon Road is the easiest of the three, while Star Trail can be considered average. The Hero Trail the hardest.
Regardless of the difficulty level, the views are worth the climb and I can recommend on any weekend in LA trip.
Eat at a Taco Truck
Last but not least, what would travelling be like without good food? Before visiting LA, I was curious about the legendary Taco Trucks so I took the time to track them down.
I know for a fact that there are Mexican-style chains like Guisados and Tacomiendo, just to name a few, but from what I heard and based on what the locals say, the best tacos come from Taco Trucks.
Luckily, I was able to find Ricky’s Fish Tacos and is great. If you’re visiting LA and want to experience tacos the way I did, you can also look for Leo’s Taco Truck, Guerilla Tacos, or Taco Zon,e which I was told are also terrific.
