The Merchant Hotel Baku has an excellent lobby-level lounge as well as a terrace bar. Both are stylish and sophisticated spots to enjoy a drink. The bar’s menu features a wide selection of expertly crafted cocktails, each with its own unique twist and flavour profile.
One standout cocktail is the “Azeri Sour,” a local take on the classic whiskey sour. The drink features bourbon, egg white, fresh lemon juice, and house-made honey syrup, with a splash of local pomegranate juice for a tangy twist. The result is a beautifully balanced and flavorful cocktail that is both refreshing and satisfying.

What Is There To Do Near the Merchant Hotel Baku?
Since the Merchant Hotel Baku is located in the heart of Baku’s Old City, there is plenty to see and do at its front steps. Some of the things to do near The Merchant Hotel Baku include:
Explore the Old City
The hotel is located within the walls of the Old City, which is home to many historic buildings, museums, and monuments. Even though I got lost more than once, I loved my time exploring the narrow streets and alleyways.
Highlights of the old town include the Maiden Tower, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, and the ruins of ancient baths.
Walk along the Seaside Boulevard
The Seaside Boulevard in Baku is a promenade that runs along the Caspian Sea and offers scenic views of the water and the city skyline. It is a popular spot for walking, jogging, and cycling and is a short walk from the Merchant Hotel Baku.
We strolled the promenade early afternoon and the area was pretty quiet. I imagine it comes alive on evenings and weekends as well as during special events and holidays.
Visit the Flame Towers
The Flame Towers are three skyscrapers that are among the tallest buildings in Baku. They are known for their striking design and are illuminated at night to create a “flaming” effect.
You can get a good view of them from the Palace of the Shirvanshahs which is a short walk from the Merchant Hotel Baku.
Stroll Mammadamin Rasul-Zadeh
On the backside of the Merchant Hotel Baku is the pedestrian-friendly street of Mammadamin Rasul-Zadeh. There you will find several cafes and restaurants. I enjoyed the coffee shops in Baku and found that coffee culture is very much a thing there. There’s even a Friends-themed Central Perk cafe. I enjoyed relaxing in the cafes and making friends with the local cats that would cuddle up on the chairs next to me.
Visit the Heydar Aliyev Center
The Heydar Aliyev Center is a modern cultural centre that houses exhibitions and events related to Azerbaijani history, culture, and art. Just exploring the exterior of the building is worth a visit.
The Heydar Aliyev Center is located a short distance from the hotel and is easily accessible by taxi or public transportation.
Aside from that, I highly recommend taking a day tour from Baku. Check out this Baku day tour post for my recommend tour along with a full review.
