Five Things to Have With You on the Plane in Case Your Bags Get Lost

iOS

If your trip is only a few days, you can put everything in your carry-on. If you’re staying at your destination for a week or more, you’re likely to pack a checked bag. In a perfect world, all of your bags will arrive with you at your destination. Unfortunately, this world is far from perfect, and it’s possible that you could get there and discover that your checked bags got left behind.

That means living out of your carry-on!

Make sure it isn’t a complete disaster by bringing these five things on the aeroplane with you.

Car Seat

If you’re travelling with small children, you’re probably going to need to bring a car seat. After all, you don’t want to get stuck at the airport because you have to figure out how you’re going to get a hold of a car seat before you rent a car!

Although a car seat is annoying to carry through the airport, don’t check it. It’s much better to bring it in the cabin with you. They’ll check it for you so it stays at the front of the plane.

Just make sure you don’t forget what properly installing a car seat looks like! Bring the directions for your specific car seat with you in your carry-on so you can make sure it is installed right in the rental car.

Important Documents

Although it may seem safer to keep these documents in a checked bag where you can’t accidentally lose them, the airport can lose them. You’re better off keeping them with you.

Some important documents to make sure you carry with you include:

  • Driver’s license or ID
  • Passport
  • Travel visas
  • Proof of vaccinations
  • Insurance cards
  • Medical condition cards
  • Emergency contact cards

Medication

There are a lot of rules about what you can and cannot bring with you on a plane. To avoid all the fuss, you might think placing your medications in your checked bag is best. This can leave you at your destination without important meds for days or even weeks at a time.

Bring all of your meds with you on the aeroplane. Prescribed medications don’t follow the same rules as things like toothpaste and hairspray. Pills don’t have to be removed from your bag during screening, and they don’t even have to be in labelled prescription bottles. Medication doesn’t follow the requirements for liquids either, which means you can carry gel capsules and aerosols in any quantities you need.

Underwear

Bring at least one extra pair of underwear with you on the plane. Period-proof underwear is an especially good idea for women travellers. You can always wash items of clothing in the sink if you get desperate, but it’s much easier to have an extra pair.

Waterless Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes and toothpaste are one of the most common things people forget to pack when going on a trip. Even if you remember to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste, if you put it in your checked bag and it gets lost, you won’t arrive at your destination with it anyway!

It’s a good idea to pack a toothbrush and toothpaste in your carry-on. It’s even more convenient if you pack some waterless toothbrushes instead. You don’t have to worry about the limit for liquids, and they take up a lot less space than a traditional toothbrush. Not to mention, because they are waterless, you can freshen your breath quickly and easily in the airport and on the plane!

No one wants to lose a bag. Still, it’s a good idea to prepare for the worst. Make sure you can at least get by comfortably and safely by getting in the cabin of the plane with these five items.
