Staying Boutique in Belgrade – Square Nine Hotel Review

IMG

I really didn’t know what to expect with my visit to Belgrade. It was my home base during my Balkans road trip with Auto Europe Car Rentals for geographical reasons more than anything else so really hadn’t read to much into the place. I certainly wasn’t expecting one of the nicest boutique hotels I’ve ever stayed at but there it was in the Square Nine Hotel. Here’s why:

5 Star all the way

From the service at the front desk to the logo stamped on every piece of butter, The Square Nine goes above and beyond. I suppose they have to as this grand hotel was the first five-star hotel to open in Serbia and today, is the only boutique one in that category. Family owned and operated with attention to quality over quantity, this five-star hotel attracts a majority of business guests but it certainly is not your typical business hotel. Inside you will find retro furnishing salvaged from 18th century Spanish monasteries mixed in with Brazilian wood and modern touches.

Character Rooms

With only 45 rooms, the Square Nine hotel is able to offer something a little different in each of them. This includes hand-picked furniture by the owner and postcards on the wall – vintage ones that were actually used.

Beyond that the Square Nine hotel offers everything you would expect comfort wise from a five-star hotel. This makes it tricky to leave but thankfully the hotel and its location offers much to see and do.

In and Around the Square Nine

Located in a quiet yet central location, this grand Hotel offers the perfect spot to conduct business or explore the city from. The lounge is always busy no matter the time of day and offers a great spot to relax with a drink.

Note: Try the white lady! I’m still not sure what it is exactly besides the best cake I have ever had!

Above it all you will find Ebisu, a restaurant run by a Japanese father and son. Although I wasn’t able to sample the menu, I did enjoy the views of Belgrade’s red roof tops and city skyline – a rare thing to find the city.

Beneath the Square Nine hotel you will find its most relaxing feature – the spa. Included in this area is a Japanese style soaker hot tub and the fitness area highlighted with a retro gymnastic horse.
