The Indonesian island of Bali is visited by thousands of tourists every year for a reason. This tropical retreat is a beautiful getaway as a one-off vacation or part of your long-term travel plans. Either way, Bali is a must-see destination whether it’s a few weeks or a couple of months.
From the traditional customary dress to pavilion houses, flower offerings and ancient temples, Bali provides an unforgettable experience, with architectural masterpieces, crafting genius and ornate clothing.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at 5 Must-See Sights in Beautiful Bali.
Tanah Lot Temple
As a tourist destination, the Tanah Lot Temple is one of Bali’s most famous. This Hindu shrine is unique as it is offshore. With the waves crashing in mesmeric fashion against the backdrop. It’s a not-to-be-missed icon that’s complemented by other, smaller shrines in the near vicinity. Visitors will even have the chance of experiencing regular dance performances – whilst restaurants and souvenir shops are close by too.
Finding the temple is reasonably straightforward and Tanah Lot is in the village of Tabanan, 20km northwest of Kuta. Of course, if your hotel is some distance from the temple, you’ll need a form of public transport – presumably taxi. Be aware that Bluebird taxis are what you should be keeping an eye out for (and the service you should be using throughout your time in Bali).
Another temple makes this list of Must-See Sights in Beautiful Bali, this time it’s the Besakih Temple, famous for its breath-taking scenery, rice paddies and backdrop of rolling hills and mountains.
As Bali’s ‘Mother Temple’, Besakih is the country’s largest and holiest temples. It’s on the southwestern slopes of Mount Agung and features a number of other temples in its immediate surroundings (86 to be precise!). Again, if you’ll be travelling some distance to visit the Besakih, Bluebird taxis are your friend.
Ubud Monkey Forest
Are you an animal lover? Want to experience one of the world’s favourite monkey retreats? Then the Ubud Monkey Forest is a must-see stop on your travel of Bali – full of grey long-tailed Macaque. Be aware that Macaque monkeys can steal things and attack you. This guide explains how even smiling can be seen as aggression and offers a number of other useful tips to take on board when visiting Bali. However, you can easily spend a day in the cooler climates of the forest and escape the unrelenting heat of Bali if you so wish.
Locals will better know the forest as Padangtal, or the official name of Mandala Wisata Wenera Wana (for those who are struggling to communicate with taxi drivers). You should also be aware the site is of significant importance to the spiritual and cultural aspects of Bali and utmost respect required at all times.

If you find yourself trekking Bali’s highlands, you’ll want to venture to the Kintamini volcano or Mount Batur as it’s better known. As you would expect, the peak offers exceptional views of the Mount Batur range and Batur Caldera lake – try the sunrise tour for an incredible experience.
Make a day of it and ascend to the top. You won’t regret your decision and can even enjoy some of the adventure activities in the near vicinity – just down the road at Toya Bungkah. There’s also a collection of hot springs to soak and relax in, so ensure the region is on your list when journeying to Bali.

Rounding out this list of must-see sights in Beautiful Bali is the Elephant Cave of Goa Gojah. This significant archaeological site is a wealth of historical value. As such, it’s a superb place to visit and is only 6km from central Ubud. This makes it reasonably straightforward to find (whether you’re driving or in the passenger seat of a taxi).
Upon arrival, you’ll thank your lucky stars you took the time to visit as well. After an hour’s descent, you’ll discover a relic-filled courtyard complete with rock carvings, a meditation cave, bathing pools and fountains. A wondrous stop well worth the effort.
