Why This Life In Trips?
This Life in Trips is a collection of travel posts spanning 8 years and is morphing into a place that includes travel tips, traveler interviews, and stories to inspire and prepare others for their own travel adventures.
The idea of behind the name This Life In Trips grew from a famous line in T.S.Eliot’s poem “The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock” In this poem Prufrock is painted as someone who has lived a safe and meaningless existence. He is filled with regret and longing to do more. He knows time is short and is haggard by the fact that he hasn’t done more with it. He has accomplished little and sums it up best with the line:
I have measured out my life in coffee spoons
This line really resonated with me. It made me ask myself what I want to measure my life with. This is obviously different for everyone but for many it is measured by success. How we measure success is often skewed with how much money we make or what kind of car we drive. I started my adult life heading this way and quickly realized that there is more to life than monetary value and possessions. After taking 9 months off work to travel I had my answer, I would measure out my life in trips. The experiences gained on that backpacking trip became priceless and changed my life for the better.
This is a place to inspire, to inform, to advise. A place to share a laugh, an image, a thought. It is a place for those looking for adventure, lasting experiences, and more. Start here for travel tips, advise on what to do (and not to do) and insight from someone who is just looking for more out of life.
